Exclusive | NYC Italian American Museum opens after 20-year odyssey: 'Italians have never had a museum'
Briefly

Every group should have their culture recognized and seen by the public at large. Italians have never had a museum. This museum is meant to fill that gap.
I realized that you can reach more people in a museum than in the classroom. Exhibits can educate the public in a way that classrooms cannot.
Museums have a hard time borrowing money. It's not something that banks like to do. Our challenge was to find funding over the years.
We bought three buildings from a family who had a bank on the corner of Grand and Mulberry that closed in 2001. This location holds historical importance to Italian immigrants.
