Martyn Pink, 43, was found dead on his knees outside Tesco Extra after refusing help from a drug and alcohol service just a week earlier.
The inquest revealed that Mr Pink overdosed on protonitazene, a potent opioid painkiller around 100 times stronger than morphine.
Despite efforts by the coroner's officers, no next of kin could be traced, and he had been known to police but had historical medical issues.
Mr Pink had a history of drug use and mental health issues but failed to attend several important assessments and communications from health services.
