In the early hours of September 2, gunfire erupted inside The Kutty Lounge in the Bronx, leading to an off-duty parole officer intervening and critically wounding the gunman, who had allegedly returned to the nightclub to continue his assault.
Police revealed that the gunman, who had been ejected from the nightclub just prior to the shooting, allegedly opened fire on patrons before being shot by the off-duty officer, highlighting the alarming rates of gun violence in the area.
Following the shooting incident, the off-duty officer, who was inside enjoying his night, responded to the immediate threat with lethal force, as the shooter attempted to escape after crashing his vehicle.
As of now, the 49th Precinct has registered 12 shootings for the year, indicating a rise in firearm violence, which is concerning for the local community as they try to make sense of the recent incident.
