Tragically, after she left for a work trip, Lewis orchestrated a murdered-for-hire plot that resulted in the death of her sister. Canales now lives with the trauma of this horrific experience, as revealed through her story.
According to the Everett Herald, Jerradon Phelps, who was hired by Lewis to execute the murder, was convicted and sentenced to over 31 years in prison. His accomplice, Alexis Hale, received a 15-year sentence. Their involvement in the plot showcases the lengths to which Lewis would go to retaliate against his ex-wife after feeling rejected by the court. Lewis himself was convicted of aggravated first-degree murder and sentenced to life in prison, a decision he attempted to appeal.
