"We've made a decision. Just haven't communicated," Mayo said. "And honestly, I want those guys to hear it first from me before they hear it from somebody else."
Mayo pointed out that offensive coordinator Alex Van Pelt was also involved in the process as were - by extension, at least - the assistant coaches on that side of the ball.
The Patriots entered training camp with Brissett as their starting quarterback...but according to Mayo has been "outplayed" by the rookie challenger Maye.
Following a slow start, Maye seemed to have strung some solid performance in practice and preseason together.
