Connor McDavid and Evander Kane led the Oilers with two goals each in a 6-2 win over the Avalanche, securing Edmonton's playoff berth. The team's resilience was highlighted by a drastic improvement from being 10 points out of the playoffs in November to clinching a spot.
"The most important thing is how you respond, and that's something... that this team does really, really well. Respond to poor efforts or bad games," said Oilers assistant captain Leon Draisaitl, emphasizing the team's ability to bounce back from setbacks.
"They were twice as good as us, with twice as many shots, more than twice as many goals," admitted Colorado head coach Jared Bednar, acknowledging the Oilers' dominant performance in the game.
"He clearly catches him high, he catches his head. My first look at the replay didn't look like it was intentional, it just kind of caught him wrong," said Bednar about Ekholm's hit on Rantanen, who left the game due to injury.
