Spectre Divide, a tactical shooter by Mountaintop Studios, is closing down less than a month after its console launch. The game experienced server issues, received mixed reviews on Steam, and offered costly in-game skins. Despite a substantial investment of $30 million and a surge of new players, it struggled to maintain an active player base. CEO Nate Mitchell stated they exhausted their capital and could no longer support the game or the studio, leading to the closure and plan to disable purchases and refund players.
"Since the PC launch, we stretched our remaining capital as far as we could, but at this point, we're out of funding to support the game," Mountaintop Studios CEO Nate Mitchell wrote in an announcement on Wednesday evening.
"We were optimistic about the first week... We've had ~400,000 players play, with a peak concurrent player count of ~10,000 across all platforms. But as time has gone on, we haven't seen enough active players and incoming revenue to cover the day-to-day costs of Spectre and the studio."
