Shana Roark, a former NYC public school teacher, embraced her passion for poetry by selling custom poems on the streets of New York City. Utilizing a vintage typewriter, she charges $55 per poem, often creating around 30 poems in a day. Roark views her work as a fusion of art and human connection, addressing both celebratory and philosophical themes in her poetry. She reflects on her journey from an educator to a full-time poet, illustrating her lifelong dedication to the craft.
"It's a really beautiful experience, getting to connect with people, but also turning that connection into art," she told The Post.
"The other kind of poem is when they want some kind of answer. They have a question about their life or something philosophical... I'm like a therapist without all the responsibility."
