In the notoriously tight Washington-area housing market, where chronically low inventory and persistent high demand often leave buyers in competition for scarce properties with little negotiating power, a slacker-than-expected summer may mean more favorable conditions for some buyers.
The couple, who had been renting in Woodbridge, about 40 minutes closer to the District, had been saving and waiting for a promising window to enter the housing market, feeling it was time to "set down roots" for their two young sons.
Home inventory in the D.C. metro area is up more than 28 percent from last July, an increase of nearly half a month of supply, according to data compiled by listing service Bright MLS.
