The Trump administration has ordered a halt to New York's congestion pricing program in Manhattan, requiring that toll collection on Federal-aid highways cease by March 21, 2025. This decision follows Governor Kathy Hochul’s appeal, which highlighted the program’s success. MTA officials intend to continue imposing the $9 toll in Lower Manhattan, unless a court intervenes. Hochul criticized the administration's actions, indicating ongoing tensions regarding the tolling program and emphasizing the potential backlash from New Yorkers against this federal intervention.
"NYSDOT and its project sponsors must cease the collection of tolls on Federal-aid highways in the CBDTP area by March 21, 2025," Department of Transportation head Gloria Shepherd wrote in a letter to New York officials.
Governor Kathy Hochul stated, "The Trump Administration is once again trying to overrule New Yorkers. They're about to find out what happens when you piss off 6 million New York commuters."
