Support for congestion pricing in New York City has seen a notable increase, with a recent Siena College poll revealing that 42% of city residents now favor the toll. This marks a significant change from December, where only 32% supported it. Statewide, 33% are in favor, reflecting a positive trend. The increase can be attributed to improved public transit conditions and the perceived benefits of reduced traffic congestion. Transit advocates highlight that residents who experience these benefits firsthand are becoming strong supporters of congestion pricing.
With gridlock down, buses moving faster, and revenue rolling in for reliable trains and accessible stations, New York is proving that our government can work for the people.
Statewide, Democrats have also come around on the traffic relief measure, flipping from 42 percent opposed and 40 percent in favor in December to 49 percent in favor and 42 percent opposed.
