SFMTA trial Day 8: 'He's a dick'
Briefly

The ongoing trial of Elias Georgopoulos against the City and County of San Francisco highlights accusations of harassment and discrimination within the SFMTA's parking enforcement division. Testimony from former colleague Sterling Haywood, a Black officer, emphasized a troubling history of racism within the department. Haywood's conflicting statements pointed to a complex work environment where accusations of bullying from Georgopoulos, who is Latino, intersect with claims of systematic discrimination and a toxic workplace culture. This trial underscores the challenges employees face related to race and discrimination in municipal workspaces.
He's a dick, said Haywood, matter-of-factly, to the jury, when asked by Georgopoulos' lawyer, Eduardo Roy, if he had ever called Georgopoulos an asshole.
I have dealt with so much racist stuff at this department. It is sad. It is disrespectful how sad it is. I never thought I would have this experience working for the MTA.
A lot of people didn't like [Georgopoulos]. It was a dark time for our department when he was there.
It was my job to represent those people and not allow him to take advantage of them.
