Newly-signed laws will help Buildings Dept. remove unsightly scaffolding sheds
Briefly

On April 17, Mayor Eric Adams signed new legislation aimed at addressing New York City's persistent issues with unsightly construction sheds. The laws provide the Department of Buildings with enhanced authority to expedite the removal of unnecessary scaffolding, mandate timely building repairs, and allow for the introduction of more aesthetically pleasing shed designs. In addition, the legislation includes penalties for property owners who fail to comply, reduces sidewalk shed permit durations, and enhances inspection and design requirements, thereby improving overall urban aesthetics and safety.
The new legislation empowers the DOB to expedite the removal of unnecessary scaffolding and mandates timely repairs by property owners, enhancing the city's aesthetic.
Under the 'Get Sheds Down' initiative, the city is also collaborating with design firms to develop more attractive scaffolding designs that enhance pedestrian safety.
