A man told ABC 7 that the attendant says she was on the bus and two groups were shooting at each other, so she pushed two kids down on the floor and she got on top of the kids.
Police are investigating if the shooting was tied to gang activity, with at least four teenagers fleeing the scene.
Six bullets were fired, with one piercing a bus window and at least another striking the side of the vehicle, sources said.
No injuries were reported, and sources said at least one shooter pulled the trigger; there is no indication the bus was the intended target.
