NYC high school student detained by ICE after scheduled court appearance
Briefly

Dylan Lopez Contreras, a 20-year-old Venezuelan student at Ellis Prep Academy, became the first NYC public school student detained by ICE since President Trump's second term. Taken into custody post-court hearing, teachers and parents expressed shock and concern, stating that he lacks a criminal record. Advocates claim that he previously entered the U.S. seeking asylum and had been compliant with immigration processes. Chilling national reactions include calls for his release. Mayor Eric Adams suggested the incident was outside school grounds, prompting further debates about due process and the broader implications for immigrant communities in NYC.
I just think it's devastating. I am a mom, I have 3 kids, and I can't imagine being separated from your child.
The situation is just heartbreaking...went for a check-in and is now detained. Without due process. They can't even find him.
All this does is disrupt communities. He works, goes to school, has friends and was fully complying with immigration proceedings.
I mean it is horrifying, what is happening.
