He Asked Someone to Stop Shooting Him With a Water Gun - Then He Took a Real Bullet
Briefly

A fun water gun fight in a Bronx park turned tragic when Darrell Harris, 17, was shot in the head and arm during a dispute. Witnesses reported that the incident began as a playful gathering but escalated when one participant instead used a real gun. Darrell was taken to Jacobi Hospital in critical condition and later succumbed to his injuries. The investigation continues with no arrests made. Tragically, this marks another loss for his family, as his older brother was also a victim of gun violence.
"He told me he was going to the park because his friends were having a water gun fight," Kellie Lewis, Harris' mother, told ABC 7.
Sources told ABC 7 and News 12 that a group of teens had gathered in Starlight Park to cool off during the heat wave, firing water guns at each other - until a much deadlier fight broke out.
Darrell was a "quiet child" who "didn't really go outside," his mother told ABC 7. His older brother, Jamal Hunter, died in a shooting in 2021.
"I've been through this already with my oldest son ... I have to make sure my other children are well," Lewis
Witnesses say Darrell asked someone to stop repeatedly shooting him in the head with water. The shooter, whom police did not name, pulled out a real gun and opened fire.
