A mother of five living in al-Qarara, Gaza, depicted the dire conditions of life under siege during Ramadan. After a temporary ceasefire allowed for brief hope of rebuilding, the situation turned again as Israel resumed military actions and blocked humanitarian aid. The family now faces severe malnutrition, limited access to food and clean water, and the constant threat of violence. Despite the struggles, she lights a small hope for peace and normalcy while grieving the absence of her husband.
We were just beginning to feel safe again, to contemplate the possibility of perhaps rebuilding our home and returning to living something that resembled a normal life.
Each night we break our fast eating the little that we have in darkness. We struggle to find water, and when we do, it's contaminated.
