The Best Things Eater Boston's Editor Ate This Month
Briefly

When I sat down at the bar at the Red Fox, one of the first things I noticed was a man a few chairs down from me digging into what looked like a doughnut with meat laid over top. That can't be right, I thought. Then, two neighboring diners ordered the prosciutto and zeppole. The dish was exactly that: a savory-sweet mash-up of warm, puffy Italian doughnuts cradled with shavings of prosciutto and a drizzle of honey over top. I wasn't above asking for a taste off their plate; we all took a forkful, and our eyes lit up simultaneously.
I was doing some spot checks for an update of Eater Boston's essential bakeries map this month and ordered a bagful of sweet and savory hand pies from Auntie Vie's to munch on while going through my update. The Caribbean bakery's beef patties to be good (the spot was already on the list from last year), but I'm now convinced that I was actually eating what may arguably be the best beef patty in Boston. The pastry was incredibly buttery and dense and the beef filling was just the right amount of spiced.
