In addition to the thunderstorms, a flood advisory has been issued for Staten Island until midnight, with expectations of an additional half inch to an inch of rain causing potential flooding.
Local authorities advise those who are outside to seek immediate shelter, warning that gusty winds could bring down tree limbs and toss around unsecured items.
