"Getting to the stores has been tremendous for us. This has been so effective that we are going to keep going," said Assistant Chief Joseph Gulotta, emphasizing the NYPD's commitment to combating retail theft.
"If you go buy a dress; go back-to-school shopping; or pick up a prescription, and you see someone walking in and taking thousands of dollars worth of items, that is a public safety issue," explained Gulotta.
According to the criminal complaint, Armando Avecilla, 58, removed shoes, a handbag, and other items worth approximately $1,160 without paying, as seen in surveillance footage.
