'The music industry is like the most toxic boyfriend ever... so if you're in it for money or for fame, go to a different career' - singer-songwriter RuthAnne Cunningham
"That song was so huge. It was on the radio all the time. Everyone knew it. Everywhere I went, it was being played. It was just insane,"
"People were then flying me all these places because they wanted to sign me as a writer, and this was back in the day when they'd send a limo to the airport to pick you up, and there were the dinners and all the 'Oh, you're amazing.' So I was like, 'Oh, God, this, this is easy. I'm in. I've got my foot in the door. I don't have to get the boat back to Ireland', you know?"
RuthAnne Cunningham co-wrote 'Too Little Too Late' at 17; the song reached No.2 in Ireland, earned gold and platinum in six countries and broke Billboard records. The song won an ASCAP award in 2007 alongside co-writers Billy Steinberg and Josh Alexander. Early success brought industry attention, limousines, international travel and offers to sign as a writer. Financial hardship followed in her twenties despite early acclaim. She experienced sexual assault and lives with endometriosis while building a career as a singer, songwriter and mother. She released a new album and a book and continues to navigate personal and professional challenges.
