Edison Research highlights a notable decline in daily audio listening at home for the second consecutive year. Following a spike during Covid, which peaked in Q4 2022, listening habits have reverted closer to pre-pandemic levels. Surprisingly, at-home listening persisted well beyond lockdowns, maintaining an average of over 2.5 hours per day in 2022. The analysis shows a shifting trend in audio consumption, with a 12 to 19-minute gap between home listening and other locations, shedding light on evolving listening preferences.
What we couldn't have predicted at the time is that this trend would continue long past the official lockdowns. Listening at home did not peak until Q4 2022.
During that year, even as listening in other locations began to slowly rise again, we still listened to over 2 ½ hours of audio at home every day.
