'It was a really grown-up world and an environment I'd never been exposed to'- RuthAnne Cunningham on finding fame at a young age
"That song was so huge. It was on the radio all the time. Everyone knew it. Everywhere I went, it was being played. It was just insane,"
"People were then flying me all these places because they wanted to sign me as a writer, and this was back in the day when they'd send a limo to the airport to pick you up, and there were the dinners and all the 'Oh, you're amazing.' So I was like, 'Oh, God, this, this is easy. I'm in. I've got my foot in the door. I don't have to get the boat back to Ireland', you know?"
RuthAnne Cunningham co-wrote 'Too Little Too Late' at 17; the song broke Billboard records in 2006, earned gold and platinum certifications in six countries, and reached No. 2 in Ireland. The song won an ASCAP award alongside co-writers Billy Steinberg and Josh Alexander. Early success brought limousines, flights, dinners, and industry attention that made success feel inevitable. Subsequent years included financial hardship in her twenties, personal experiences of sexual assault, and struggles with endometriosis. Cunningham continues to work as a songwriter and singer, balances motherhood, and is releasing a new album and a book.
