Dolly Parton Says She's Pausing Songwriting After Her Husband's Death
Briefly

Dolly Parton has paused songwriting after the passing of her husband, Carl Dean. She shared on a podcast that she feels unable to complete her ideas because of emotional challenges. Parton emphasized the importance of story in songwriting and its connection to creativity, stating that every great project begins with a compelling story or song. Despite her current pause, she expressed love for writing and the connection she feels to a higher power during the process. Additionally, she reflected on her childhood, personal life, and relationships.
My husband passed away three months ago. ... Several things I've wanted to start, but I can't do it. I will later, but I'm just coming up with such wonderful, beautiful ideas. But I think I won't finish it.
Everything begins with a story or a song. Every movie, you've got to have a great story. It doesn't matter how great the actress is or the actor, doesn't matter how great the director is - if you don't have a good story, you don't have a project.
So I think that's one of the reasons I love to write, because I feel like I'm so connected to God right then.
I can't do it right now because I've got so many other things that I can't afford the luxury of getting that emotional right now.
