Robby Stein, Google's VP of Product for Search, addressed publishers' concerns regarding the AI Mode, highlighting ongoing enhancements to the user interface that aim to improve site click-through rates. He emphasized that AI Mode would facilitate new types of queries and allow users to explore topics more deeply, providing assurances that these developments will create new opportunities for publishers. However, skepticism remains, as evidence from third-party studies suggests that click-through rates from AI Overviews have been poor, leading to legal repercussions for Google.
The team is really focused on how we make it easy to click to sites -- we have a lot more UI updates coming that we showed in our announcement post. It's something we hear from users that they want and core to how we're building AI Mode.
In fact, third-party studies and evidence shows the CTR from AI Overviews is horrid. Google is even being sued over this.
