Chris Gutierrez Reveals Adversities of Extended Training Camp
Briefly

Chris Gutierrez shared insights into his challenging 21-week training camp leading up to his rescheduled fight against John Castaneda at UFC Kansas City. Initially set for March, the fight was postponed due to Castaneda's illness, causing Gutierrez to undergo extended training. During this time, he struggled with feelings of exhaustion and ineffective training, ultimately identifying overtraining as a core issue. Taking a few days off allowed him to recover mentally and physically, preparing him adequately for his upcoming match.
I've been in camp for like 21 weeks, still got three more left. It's been a long camp. I think this camp was one of the camps where I was like, 'Man I'm not feeling good. Nothing's firing.' I think it was a little bit of overtraining, but we caught it early... It's scary because you're doing everything correct but nothing is working... So taking some time off, taking two or three days off, really using that downtime to just recover, not even thinking about fighting.
