Jesse David Martinez, a 43-year-old man from Salinas, was found guilty of several offenses, including evading police and illegal firearm possession, after failing to appear for his trial. His conviction was in absentia, following a dangerous pursuit initiated during a Jun. 20, 2024 traffic stop for a tinted license plate cover. Although officers began to chase him, they deemed the pursuit too hazardous and halted it. Martinez later admitted to discarding a firearm into Lake El Estero, which was subsequently recovered by a dive team. He awaits sentencing upon his arrest.
