After five years of construction, the Muni L Taraval train resumed service, improving accessibility for residents and local businesses. Many business owners, who faced challenges during the construction period, expressed relief at the increased foot traffic and the recent ordinance refunding commercial vacancy taxes. This refund aims to support property owners who struggled to lease their spaces from 2022 to 2024 while construction was ongoing. With the train now operational, various commuters, including seniors and students, benefit from this essential public transport link.
"Those years, we wouldn't even know if we can open our door every day," said Patrick, a bartender at Karl's Beacon at 24th Avenue and Taraval Street.
"Now we are doing better," agreed Shubo Wang, owner of the Happy Family Gourmet, folding dumplings as she spoke in a northern Chinese dialect. "It was too bad in the past. We were so close to losing our business."
