Worst landlords in NYC had thousands of violations in2024: Public Advocate
Briefly

Public Advocate Jumaane Williams revealed NYC's 2024 list of the worst landlords, showcasing nearly 400 buildings with severe Housing Preservation and Development (HPD) violations. The list, compiled from repeated infractions from November 2023 to October 2024, includes properties notorious for heat and hot water outages. Among them, Barry Singer leads with over 1,800 violations spread across seven buildings, facing over 120 heat complaints during the city's heat season. Williams criticized these landlords for their dangerous negligence, highlighting the dismal living conditions tenants endure amidst winter's cold temperatures.
The people on this list are at best dangerously negligent, and at worst, actively choosing to profit off the pain of New Yorkers living in unsafe, deplorable conditions.
Each building averaged 146 open Housing Preservation and Development (HPD) violations, among them being no heat, which hit home for many New York tenants during the city's ongoing freezing temperatures.
...over the eight months of NYC's heat season...Singer received 121 heat and hot water complaints throughout his seven buildings on the list.
The shameful list's chart-topper, Singer, owns seven buildings in the city, with more than 1,800 HPD violations.
