Desert Island wrote on its Instagram page that their landlord had been offered 'almost double' the location's current rent by another business and ordered them to 'match it or vacate by Jan. 1, 2025.'
Local fans were dismayed at the news, comparing the loss of Desert Island to the recent closure of Metropolitan neighbor Crest Hardware, forced to close in September over rent hikes.
Another business, a longtime local liquor store, is also reportedly being forced to move from its current location after its building was sold, leaving Desert Island pushed out in a game of real-estate musical chairs.
