Los Gatos has taken the initiative to lower speed limits on certain parts of Blossom Hill Road as a proactive measure to enhance traffic safety, following two fatalities last year.
Cupertino has implemented speed limit reductions along five key corridors, recognizing that lower speeds can lead to fewer crashes and increased safety for drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians.
Local advocacy group member Jennifer Shearin emphasized that reduced speeds improve driver awareness, making it easier to see pedestrians and cyclists, thus potentially preventing injuries.
Cupertino's speed limit changes were made possible due to Assembly Bill 43, which grants municipalities more flexibility to set limits on streets with higher pedestrian and cyclist activity.
