'We were overjoyed when trees were planted in our street - then vandals wrecked them'
Briefly

On January 22-23, young saplings planted by Camden Council in Canfield Gardens were vandalized, breaking branches and snapping trees. Residents expressed outrage and sadness over this act of mindless violence, particularly as the saplings had begun budding and were planted to replace older trees. Local leaders emphasized the community's excitement about the trees enhancing the area, which is known for its pollution and traffic. Camden Council has committed to replacing the damaged trees before the end of the planting season in March.
Someone just snatched three or four of them in that kind of mindless violence that really riles you up.
It was absolutely devastating to see that four trees should be so indiscriminately targeted.
It's a particularly toxic street so to have these new trees was a joy to all of us.
It's very hard to understand why anybody would do such a thing but there you go, it's life today.
