The Food Standards Agency (FSA) of the UK has launched an investigation into Coca-Cola drinks to determine if they contain high levels of chlorate, a chemical linked to iodine deficiency. This follows earlier recalls in Belgium, Luxembourg, and the Netherlands where specific products were found to have elevated chlorate levels from chlorine-based sanitizers. Although there have been no complaints in Great Britain, Coca-Cola Europacific Partners is in contact with food safety authorities and stated that the risk to consumers is low based on independent analysis.
