Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg stated that 'Passagers deserve to get their money back when an airline owes them-without headaches or haggling,' emphasizing the new regulation's aim.
Airlines must now process refunds to passengers within seven business days for credit card purchases or within 20 calendar days for other payment methods.
Despite the implementation of the new rule, the airline industry has expressed some pushback but indicated support for accommodating customers seeking refunds.
