"A large portion of resource-related conflicts and political instabilities are associated with land degradation and resource loss, which drive migrations. This is a critical issue affecting not only rural areas but urban centers as well," explained COP16 President Abderrahman Al-Fadhli.
"In northern Kenya, families are leaving their villages, abandoning dilapidated homes and cracked fields for makeshift camps or overcrowded cities, revealing the harsh reality of resource loss and migration," noted expert Julia Fuelscher.
"The fertile soil that once sustained them is turning barren, unable to support crops or quench the thirst of livestock, underscoring a dire environmental crisis affecting millions," said UNCCD officials.
