Typhoon Kong-rey: Taiwan shuts down ahead of biggest storm in decades
Briefly

Taiwan has declared a public emergency as Typhoon Kong-rey approaches, closing schools and businesses across the island and warning citizens of severe weather conditions.
Storm trackers ranked Kong-rey between a category three and four hurricane, with gusts exceeding 225 km/h and a wide impact radius of over 320 km.
The Central Weather Administration warned of potential landslides and flooding across Taiwan, urging residents to stay indoors as the storm could bring over 1.2 meters of rainfall.
Kong-rey is expected to make landfall near Taitung, whereby it could still maintain typhoon strength while crossing the central mountain range of Taiwan.
