A serious road collision occurred at approximately 11:15pm on Tuesday, February 24, 2026, involving a lorry and a car. Two male passengers, both in their late teens, were pronounced deceased—one at the scene and one at Altnagelvin Hospital. The male driver, also in his late teens, sustained serious injuries and was transferred to the Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast. Post-mortem examinations are pending and the Coroner has been notified. The R236 road remains closed for forensic investigation with local diversions in place. The community has organized a mass at St Baithin's Church and opened Shantallow Community Centre to support grieving families and friends, with grief counsellors available.
