Following the Capitol riot on January 6, 2021, acting deputy administrator for management and resources at USAID, Pete Marocco, placed remaining staffers on administrative leave with pay. The memo instructed employees to remain available for communication during normal business hours and not to access agency premises or systems without authorization. This follows earlier actions where over 50 USAID employees, largely in senior positions, were already placed on leave, illustrating a significant shift in agency operations under the Trump administration and increasing scrutiny on their activities.
In a memo titled, PLACED ON ADMINISTRATIVE LEAVE, acting deputy administrator for management and resources Pete Marocco advised USAID employees they were being placed on excused absence with pay effective immediately.
During the period that you are on administrative leave you are not to enter USAID premises, access USAID systems, or attempt to use your position or authority with USAID in any way without my prior permission.
