A two-vehicle collision occurred shortly after 9pm on the Ardee Road in the Gibstown townland on the outskirts of Dundalk. Five people under the age of 25, all travelling in a Volkswagen Golf, were killed. The deceased are from Carrickmacross, Drumconrath and Scotland. A sixth person from the Golf is in hospital with serious injuries. A male and female from a Toyota Land Cruiser are in hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. An Garda Síochána appointed Family Liaison Officers, closed the scene for a technical and forensic examination, and is investigating all circumstances of the crash.
