"It is understood three men and two women are dead, all of whom are in their 20s. The crash, involving two vehicles, occurred in the townland of Gibstown, on the Ardee Road, on the outskirts of Dundalk town shortly after 9pm. All five deceased were travelling in the same car, a Volkswagen Golf."

The scene here on the L3168, Gibstown, remains closed today and a technical and forensic examination is being carried out by An Garda Síochána Forensic Collision investigators."
A two-vehicle crash occurred shortly after 9pm on the Ardee Road in the townland of Gibstown, on the outskirts of Dundalk. Three men and two women, all in their 20s, died; all five were travelling in the same Volkswagen Golf. A sixth person from the Golf is in hospital with serious injuries. A male and female from a Toyota Land Cruiser are in hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Family Liaison Officers have been appointed and An Garda Síochána is carrying out a technical and forensic examination of the scene. The Taoiseach described the incident as leaving him "numbed and shocked."
