The CMA's decision to approve the merger of Three and Vodafone comes with binding commitments to invest billions in a combined 5G network, enhancing competition.
Stuart McIntosh stated, 'We believe the merger is likely to boost competition in the UK mobile sector and should be allowed to proceed - but only if Vodafone and Three agree to implement our proposed measures.'
The approval follows an inquiry that determined the merger would benefit the UK market, contrasting with a previous attempt in 2015 that was blocked due to competition concerns.
The merger will also include customer protections including capped mobile tariffs and specific contractual terms for mobile virtual network operators for three years.
