Heidi Ganaden and her husband transitioned from corporate jobs in Manila to operate a hotel in Siargao, the Philippines' surfing capital. Initially planning a simple beach shack, they recognized the area's growing tourism potential after a short visit. The couple, avid surfers, were inspired by the tourist boom and decided to build accommodations instead. Their journey faced challenges, including a pandemic and a category 5 typhoon, yet they have successfully settled into their new roles, combining their love for surfing with entrepreneurship.
We actually didn't have the idea for a hotel initially. It was really an accident. We were in a central spot, and we thought it would be a waste to just offer it for a long-term lease.
After working corporate jobs and living in Manila, we thought, OK, maybe we can try and look at it. Maybe we can just put up a small shack so that we can go to Siargao.
