The most authoritative recent data on the American Muslim population comes from 2020 U.S. census questions on religion. These data are incomplete and often inaccurate, however. The Muslim community is growing rapidly, so these data are already a bit inaccurate four years on.
Despite these inaccuracies, in a very broad sense, the census estimates show us which states have by far the largest Muslim populations and those where the numbers are relatively small. This information can be useful to anyone who works in a field where serving diverse populations is expected, such as government, nonprofit services, education, and retail marketing.
