The Royal Shakespeare Company is turning Macbeth into a neo-noir game
Briefly

William Shakespeare's Macbeth is being transformed into an interactive video game titled Lili, combining a neo-noir aesthetic with elements of live-action cinema. Developed in collaboration with the Royal Shakespeare Company and indie studio iNK Stories, the game presents a modern-day interpretation of Lady Macbeth, set against a backdrop of surveillance and authoritarianism in contemporary Iran. Players will engage with her personal devices, making choices that shape her story, adding an immersive layer to the classic tragedy. The game is expected to be released later in 2025.
Players will be immersed in a stylized, neo-noir vision of modern Iran, where surveillance and authoritarianism are part of daily life.
The gameplay will feature a blend of live-action cinema within an interactive game format, giving players the chance to immerse themselves in the world of Lady Macbeth and make choices.
