The Onion plans to relaunch InfoWars in January as a parody of Jones and other online personalities that spread misinformation, controlling both the website and studio.
The actual CEO of The Onion's parent company explained, 'We thought this would be a hilarious joke. This is going to be our answer to this no-guardrails world where everything's kind of insane.'
A statement from the attorney of eight Sandy Hook families indicated they agreed to forgo a portion of their recovery to boost The Onion's bid.
The Onion's parody approach is aimed at countering the misinformation online and is supported by Everytown for Gun Safety, which will advertise on the relaunched site.
