Kam's last post made me cry, both for his beautiful writing and for the grim truth he touches on: Whatever takes place on the movie or TV or laptop screen these days comes at us in the same continuous stream of images that brings us the news from the world outside the theater, and outside all our doors.
The acts of criticism and of news consumption both begin with a half-conscious process of editing and selection, deciding which images to let into your brain when, and at what intervals, in the hope that the ones that matter stand a chance of truly registering there.
