John McGonagle's innovative venture aims to utilize alpaca wool for knitted hats, reviving local traditions and boosting community involvement through local knitters.
He was left scratching his head when it came to knowing what to do with the fleeces of his alpacas. A chance meeting with a man in the clothing trade led him to get the wool spun into yarn.
McGonagle started working with local knitwear designer Ailbíona McLochlainn, birthing the idea to create alpaca beanies using local knitters, hoping to launch them before Christmas.
Spinning wool for yarn has deep roots and a proud tradition in the county, where it was customary for people to spin wool into fibers during long winters.
