The new regulations in Spain mandate tourism-related businesses to collect over 40 types of data from lodging clients and over 60 for car rentals, raising significant privacy concerns.
The president of Spain's Tourism Board, Juan Molas, criticized the decree, labeling it as "unfortunate and incomprehensible," expressing strong dissatisfaction with the government's approach to data collection.
Ramon Estalella from CEHAT emphasized the risks involved, stating, "Requesting this data, transmitting this data, storing it for three years, we believe it is a huge risk for all intents and purposes, especially for the protection of personal data."
The Spanish Confederation of Travel Agencies (CEAV) cautioned that the new rules could discourage tourists, warning the regulations are excessively burdensome and could harm their industry.
