South Korean authorities have temporarily blocked the download of DeepSeek's app in the country while they evaluate the application's compliance with privacy regulations. The Personal Information Protection Commission (PIPC) raised concerns over user data handling, especially regarding its connection to ByteDance, the parent company of TikTok. Existing users can still use the app but are advised against sharing personal information. DeepSeek, which was unaware of South Korean privacy laws, has pledged to collaborate with local officials to rectify these issues.
The Personal Information Protection Commission (PIPC) said the Chinese app would be available to be downloaded once it complies with Korean privacy laws.
DeepSeek's investigation found issues with its third-party service and privacy policies, which led to concerns over user data handling.
