South Bay activists, leaders show united support for immigrant communities in wake of election
Briefly

"The organizing that Cesar Chavez did that changed the world started in this very community of Mayfair," said Maritza Maldonado, executive director for Amigos de Guadalupe Center for Justice & Empowerment, emphasizing the historical significance of the location in the fight for immigrant rights.
Misrayn Mendoza with Amigos de Guadalupe Center for Justice & Empowerment shared what a parent was told by her child: 'He told her, "I'm a citizen, mom. It's okay. I will hide you in the closet if I have to.'" This heartbreaking statement highlights the fear children feel for their undocumented parents.
Santa Clara County Supervisor Sylvia Arenas expressed that fear of deportation extends beyond the undocumented community, drawing from her own family experience: 'My parents had their papers, they were citizens and they owned a home. But because of all that, there's so much at risk.'
Arenas also reassured the community stating, 'We do not collaborate, partner, work together with ICE to detain anybody,' as part of their commitment to support and protect local immigrant families.
